Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 June 2026 · Applies to the SelectMath iOS app and selectmath website, operated by enVara Labs.
The short version: SelectMath is built for children, so we collect as little as possible. No ads, no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, and no account is required to use the app — no names or email addresses needed. A parent may optionally use Sign in with Apple to sync across devices. Practice statistics live on your device. By default the cloud sees only an anonymous identifier.
1. Information we collect
- Anonymous identifier. The app signs in to our backend anonymously (Firebase Authentication). This generates a random identifier not linked to a name, email address or phone number.
- Optional Sign in with Apple. A parent may choose to sign in with Apple to keep subscription status and daily limits in sync across devices. If you do, Apple provides us with a stable account identifier and, only if you choose to share them, your name and an email address (which may be Apple's private-relay address). We use these solely to operate account sync and never for advertising or profiling. If you never sign in, the app continues to work with the anonymous identifier alone.
- Question-delivery records. For SelectMath Unlimited subscribers, we record which question IDs have been delivered to your anonymous identifier (so a child never sees the same question twice) and a daily request count (to enforce fair-use limits).
- Subscription status. When you subscribe, Apple processes the payment. We receive and store the subscription status and an App Store transaction identifier against your anonymous identifier so subscription features unlock and refunds revoke correctly. We never see your payment details.
- Device integrity signals. We use Apple DeviceCheck via Firebase App Check to confirm requests come from a genuine copy of the app. This does not identify you or your device to us.
2. Information that stays on your device
- Practice history, scores, accuracy, streaks and topic statistics
- The student's display name and chosen avatar (used only on-screen)
- The parental-gate PIN
- Downloaded question content
None of this is transmitted to our servers. Deleting the app deletes this data.
3. What we do not collect
- No names, email addresses, phone numbers or dates of birth
- No location data
- No advertising identifiers — the app contains no ads and no ad SDKs
- No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs
- No photos, contacts, microphone or camera access
4. Children's privacy
SelectMath is designed for students aged roughly 8–12 under parental supervision. The child experience contains no ads, no chat or social features, no external links, and no free-text data entry that leaves the device. Purchases and settings sit behind a parental gate (PIN or Face ID). Because we collect no personal information from children, there is nothing to sell, profile or share.
5. How information is used
The limited data above is used solely to operate the service: delivering non-repeating questions, enforcing fair-use limits, unlocking subscription entitlements, and keeping the question bank healthy. We do not sell data, share it with advertisers, or use it for marketing.
6. Service providers
Our backend runs on Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Hosting; data processed in the United States). Payments are processed by Apple. Each provider acts as a processor for the limited data described above under their own security and privacy commitments.
7. Data retention and deletion
Anonymous identifiers and question-delivery records are retained while the service operates. Because the identifier is anonymous by default, the practical way to sever it is to delete the app. If you signed in with Apple, you can sign out in the app's settings and revoke SelectMath's access under your Apple ID settings at any time. To request deletion of the server-side records linked to your installation, email us (include the support code shown in the app's settings if available) and we will delete them within 30 days.
8. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of information we hold. Given the anonymous-by-default design, in most cases there is no information capable of identifying you — unless you chose Sign in with Apple, in which case we can locate and delete the associated account data on request. Either way, contact us and we will help.
9. Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
