Why parents choose SelectMath over static test sets

Most prep products are a fixed pile of PDFs or exam sets. SelectMath is a system that learns your child.

Verified twice, served once

Every question passes a three-gate quality pipeline, including an independent solver check by a second AI model — so the answer key is right. Wrong answers in prep books are the #1 parent complaint; we engineered them out.

🧠

Adaptive difficulty engine

The difficulty adjusts to your child's accuracy and speed during the session — challenged, never frustrated, always practising at the edge of their level. Weak topics get surfaced automatically.

⏱️

The real exam format

The NSW Selective test is computer-based: five options A–E, strict per-section timing, auto-submit. SelectMath mirrors it exactly, so test day feels familiar instead of frightening.

♾️

Never the same question twice

Fresh verified questions stream into the bank daily. Premium guarantees your child never sees a repeat — unlike "15 exam sets" products that run dry in a fortnight.

🎯

Selective & OC specific

Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking Skills aligned to the NSW Selective High School and Opportunity Class placement tests — not a generic US maths app with the wrong curriculum.

NSW Selective Test — what parents ask us

Straight answers about the test and the app.

What format is the NSW Selective High School Placement Test now?
Since 2025 the test is computer-based. Students answer multiple-choice questions with five options (A–E) under strict per-section time limits, and unanswered questions are auto-submitted when time expires. The test covers Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, Thinking Skills and Writing. SelectMath focuses on the two most coachable quantitative sections — Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking Skills — and replicates the real on-screen format, including the timer and auto-submit behaviour.
When should my child start preparing?
The test is held in early May each year, and most families begin focused preparation 3–6 months out — around the spring or summer before. Short, regular adaptive practice beats cramming: 20 minutes a day from November is far more effective than three-hour weekend marathons in April.
How do I know the questions and answers are actually correct?
Every question in SelectMath passes three quality gates before a child can ever see it: a structural check, an independent solve by a second AI model from a different provider that must agree with the answer key, and a duplicate screen. Questions that fail any gate are quarantined and never served. If you ever spot an issue, every question has a one-tap report button and we review reports directly.
Is it safe for my child to use alone?
Yes. There are no ads, no chat, no social features and no external links in the child experience. Settings and purchases sit behind a parental gate (PIN or Face ID). Practice stats live on the device; the cloud sees only anonymous identifiers.
Does it also help with the OC (Opportunity Class) test?
Yes — the OC placement test uses the same computer-based format and tests the same Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking Skills domains at a Year 4 level. The adaptive engine automatically meets your child at their level.
What about Reading and Writing?
SelectMath includes a curated Reading Skills bonus set, but our depth is deliberately in the quantitative sections — Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking Skills — where systematic, adaptive practice moves scores the most. Writing needs human feedback, and we'd rather be the best at our lane than mediocre at four.
